After limiting last year’s movie output to Deadpool & Wolverine, the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicks off its jam-packed 2025 slate with Captain America: Brave New World. Featuring Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in the role of Captain America, Brave New World borrows from ‘90s thrillers to tell a conspiracy tale involving new President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, played by the legendary Harrison Ford.

Brave New World brings back The Incredible Hulk minor character Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson) as the Leader, a super genius on a mission of vengeance against President Ross. Sterns’s plot not only brings in mercenary group Serpent, led by Giancarlo Esposito as the sinister Sidewinder, but also catches up with Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), the forgotten super soldier introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Brave New World offers a mixed bag of thrills, but there’s more good than bad, as we describe in our review featured below. However, the movie’s many references to The Incredible Hulk and Eternals might test the memory of the most devoted Marvel fan. Don’t worry, we broke down the details about the movie’s climax. We also look at some of the surprising deep cuts in Brave New World, including the inclusion of one particularly surprising Marvel cameo.

Of course, there’s a post-credit scene in Brave New World, which has major implications for the next two Avengers movies, Doomsday and Secret Wars. X-Men fans will also want to check out our article about the super metal adamantium that gets introduced in Brave New World, a metal that has a direct connection to Wolverine.

All of that said, Brave New World is fundamentally a Captain America movie, one that presents a new challenge for not just Sam Wilson, but also for actor Anthony Mackie. Mackie spent some time with Den of Geek, explaining his process for making Sam a unique Captain America from his predecessor Steve Rogers. Even better, Mackie shares his picks for Sam’s ideal Avengers team, picking a line-up we never would have guessed.

Captain America 4 Review: A Brave New World With Classic ’90s Thrills

Captain America: Brave New World thrives in its best moments, delivering the kind of fast-paced, no-frills excitement reminiscent of a ’90s thriller on a Sunday afternoon. The $180 million production actually has a leaner, less polished quality that somehow manages to work in the film’s favor. But will it please Captain America fans?

Unlike some of Marvel’s more bloated blockbusters, Brave New World keeps things moving, pushing past its rough edges to keep audiences entertained. In fact, Brave New World blasts right through its shortcomings with a can-do attitude that can’t help but win viewers over. Will you be one of them?

Avowed Is a Great Borderlands Game Role-Playing as an Obsidian RPG

After an earlier preview of Avowed left our our reviewer puzzled about what kind of game Obsidian was trying to make, he finally figured it out. It’s a Borderlands game!

Obsidian may have set out to make a more action-oriented version of the RPGs that made the studio famous, but somewhere along the way, they ended up with a Borderlands game. Go figure! Now it’s up to you to determine whether that means Avowed is a strange gem or a frustrating glimpse at what could have been.
