šŸŽ¬ Death of the Unicorn Director Shares Exclusive Historical Inspirations

Alex Scharfman unpacks each of the real-life ā€œUnicorn Tapestriesā€ and how they inspired the look, story, characterizations, and even ending of Death of a Unicorn.

Tuesday Edition April 1, 2025

You would think that with a movie like Death of a Unicorn, you wouldnā€™t have to worry about historical accuracy. After all, the film is a tongue-in-cheek horror flick about the aftermath of a man and his daughter hitting a mythical unicorn with their car. Not exactly the most realistic scenario!

But despite the vast departure the movie takes from established unicorn mythology, there actually is a basis for the horned creature being much more dangerous than the cute creatures we think about today featured on t-shirts, stickers, and lunchboxes. Just check out the article below!

I guess we shouldnā€™t be too surprised, though. Some modern fairy tales were much more horrific in their original forms. If youā€™re curious, search for the original versions of The Little Mermaid or Sleeping Beautyā€¦ but donā€™t say I didnā€™t warn you!
