🌀 Exclusive Agatha All Along Creator Interview Breaks Down Big Decisions

We spoke with Marvel TV mastermind Jac Schaeffer about the journey from WandaVision to Agatha All Along and beyond at Atlanta's SCAD TVfest.

Tuesday Edition February 11, 2025

We had one loose end left over from our SCAD TVfest coverage that we wanted to lead with in today’s newsletter: our exclusive interview with Jac Schaeffer, the creator who kicked off Marvel’s television presence on Disney+ with WandaVision back in 2021. She was very forthcoming about several of her choices in making Agatha All Along and where things are headed next in her corner of the MCU.

Meanwhile, was it just me or were the Super Bowl commercials lacking as much excitement this year as the game itself? Among the highlights, though, were the long-awaited trailers for upcoming movies like Thunderbolts*, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, and How to Train Your Dragon. That last one was a personal favorite along with the upcoming action thriller starring Jack Quaid called Novocaine.

Oh, but it’s still Oscars season, too! Check out our article below about a dark horse candidate that has been winning in the lead-up to the Academy Awards.

WandaVision and Agatha Creator Jac Schaeffer Reveals the Marvel Character She Couldn’t Leave Behind

Make no mistake: Agatha All Along isn’t coming back for a second season. Patti LuPone, who played Lilia in the series, said as much in a Deadline interview, sharing that showrunner Jac Schaeffer doesn’t do second seasons. And although the proof is in the pudding with WandaVision, her previous MCU entry that was also one-and-done, don’t count her out altogether.

Schaeffer had plenty to share when TV editor Alec Bojalad visited with her at SCAD TVfest in Atlanta, including her thoughts on Vision Quest (the next chapter in the ongoing saga which she will not be helming), her composer collaboration that led to “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road,” and a favorite Marvel character that she insisted on bringing back to the screen.

Oscars 2025: Anora Suddenly Looks like the Best Picture Frontrunner

Don’t call it a fluke! Although Anora was largely ignore by critics, everyone was as surprised as director Sean Baker when his deceptively layered screwball comedy about a sex worker from Brooklyn won the Best Picture prize at the 30th annual Critics' Choice Awards.

But it wasn’t just a one-off circumstance! Both the Directors Guild of America and the Producers Guild of America gave their top cinematic prizes to Anora as well. Could this mean Oscar gold for the quirky film, upsetting favorites and controversial frontrunners like The Brutalist and Emilia PĂ©rez?

South of Midnight Preview: 5 Things We Learned After Playing a Demo of the Game

South of Midnight has quickly garnered quite a bit of attention this year, despite the potential to be lost in a year full of major new game releases. Its distinct visual style, unique Deep South fantasy setting, and Xbox-exclusive status comes at a time when such things are as rare as ancient talking catfish.

We recently got the chance to go hands-on with a brief, 90-minute demo of South of Midnight set early in the game. The demo confirmed that the action-adventure title has real potential but it also raised a few concerns about what is actually supporting all that style. Check out the five things we learned during our short journey.
