đź‘‘ Exclusive: Captain America Writer Reveals Key Sam Wilson Differences
We spoke to screenwriter Rob Wilson about the importance of vulnerability both in Captain America: Brave New World and his latest project, King of Kings.
Tuesday Edition April 15, 2025
Fear is not the exclusive domain of horror movies. In fact, it can be a powerful part of the conflict that makes any movie or TV show entertaining. In our feature story below, Captain America: Brave New World screenwriter Rob Edwards remembers how even the audience of his kids’ movies enjoyed being frightened. “Kids aren’t afraid to be scared,” he said. “They go to Disneyland or a haunted house, and they go down a wild runaway car or underwater, stuff like that. And kids like it!”
One of the questions our interviewer asked Doctor Who stars Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu was, “What is the Doctor’s and Belinda’s biggest fear?” and the answers were enlightening to say the least. Gatwa even spoke about a unique acting challenge during scary scenes: “You will be facing the greatest fear of your life, and it will be a tennis ball on the end of a stick that’s being held by the first assistant director.” Scary indeed!
And our final headliner in today’s newsletter examines one of the scariest video game adaptations ever made: HBO’s The Last of Us, but the premiere is more about guilt, deception, and preparing for the frightening things to come in the season ahead. It turns out scariness can come in all forms and genres, and audiences are not only prepared for it—they relish it!
