🌟 Exclusive Daisy Ridley Interview Reveals Rey Actor's Star Wars Thoughts

Daisy Ridley looks back on 10 years of Rey, some caveats for Apple's next sci-fi adaptation, a new future for James Bond, and more!

Friday Edition February 21, 2025

Whether we’re talking about actors in a Star Wars film, the many iterations of Doctor Who, or the various incarnations of James Bond, certain roles have a way of becoming indelibly linked to those who play them. Daisy Ridley, for example, can be in as many indie films as she likes — or even be an action hero in Cleaner — but she will always be Rey Skywalker. Just ask Harrison Ford! (On second thought, don’t.)

Similarly, Daniel Craig can put on a Southern accent in Knives Out but still be remembered as the most recent James Bond. Even now that Amazon MGM has creative control over that franchise, those who take on the 007 mantle will forever be known for their place in the lineup, from Sean Connery to whoever’s next. Heck, even rumors of possible casting choices make headlines!

We only have ourselves to blame, I suppose! But who am I kidding? We love our cultural icons!

Apple TV+’s Next Big Sci-Fi Gamble Could Outdo Blade Runner — But There’s a Catch

Between the success of sci-fi series like Severance and Silo, Apple TV+ has found a real genre niche, and soon the network will be rolling the dice again on a very recognizable and pioneering bit of cyberpunk: William Gibson's groundbreaking 1984 novel, Neuromancer. With Gibson himself on board as an executive producer, this series promises to dive deep into a gritty, Blade Runner-esque future.

But there’s a potential problem. Neuromancer was penned over four decades ago, envisioning a future where "three megabytes of hot RAM" was a big deal, and cell phones weren't even on the radar. So, how will the showrunners balance the novel's retro-tech charm with today's digital reality? Will they embrace the vintage vibe or overhaul the tech to fit modern times? This creative dilemma could make or break the series!

James Bond Franchise Just Confirmed a Major Change for the Future of 007 Movies

The unthinkable has happened! Eon Studios has ceded creative control of their beloved James Bond character and the world he inhabits to Amazon Studios, something longtime Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have previously resisted. In the new partnership, Broccoli and Wilson will stay on as co-owners, and Amazon MGM Studios will steer the creative direction of future Bond adventures.

This marks a major shift, as the Broccoli family has been the driving force behind Bond since the 1960s. With Amazon at the helm, fans are buzzing with questions: Will we see new spin-offs? Could there be a Bond TV series in the works? And, of course, who will don the iconic tuxedo next? Where other franchises have been over-saturated and spread too thin, it remains to be seen if 007 can rise above the fray.
