One of the biggest gaming events of the year is Summer Game Fest, which features announcements, updates, and previews across the entire industry. Organized by journalist and presenter Geoff Keighley, the annual celebration of video games brings together developers of all sizes, journalists, and influencers for a multi-day showcase teasing what’s next for eager fans of the medium. For its third year straight, Den of Geek attended the exclusive event and we’ve got a preview here for all the cool things we saw and, in some cases, got to play for ourselves months ahead of the official launch.

The first thing we did, like many participants and observers, was attend the kickoff presentation at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, which began with the announcement of Capcom’s Resident Evil Veronica, the long-rumored remake of 2000’s Resident Evil - Code: Veronica. The event featured guests like Snoop Dogg, teasing his appearance in January’s upcoming Sega game Stranger Than Heaven and additional reveals, including Shift Up’s Stellar Blade: Blood Rain. Closing things out was an extensive look at Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Revelation, set for a multi-platform debut in spring 2027, and finishing off the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy.

Immediately after that, we went down to the Hotel Roosevelt in the heart of Hollywood to attend an IO Interactive shindig celebrating Hitman: World of Assassination and the recently-released 007 First Light. IOI declared 007 First Light as the fastest-selling title in its history, now surpassing three million copies sold in just over a week, and provided more details about the game’s DLC roadmap, including new story missions featuring Lenny Kravitz’s character Bawma. On the Hitman front, a new seasonal mission involving Codename 47 tracking an MMA fighter played by Wiz Khalifa was teased while the first three games will be remastered and compiled in an upcoming collection by Saber Interactive. Following this eventful kickoff, we toured all three days of the Summer Game Fest Play Days showcase. An invite-only proceeding taking place in a private campus in Los Angeles, Play Days features previews, hands-on demos, and interview opportunities. We took full advantage of our access to Plays Days this year, with more interviews, previews, and private showings than any Summer Game Fest we’ve ever covered before.

This is all to say that Den of Geek is going to have some primo gaming coverage spinning out of Summer Game Fest 2026 in the weeks to come. An interview with the cast of 007 First Light is on its way to our website soon. First impressions after playing Atari’s remasters of Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee and Thief: The Dark Project, two fan-favorite titles coming to modern platforms by the end of the year, are also incoming. But also got to play early builds from upcoming eagerly anticipated games from AAA studios like Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Control Resonant too, along with several major titles that we can’t disclose just yet.

With major announcements from industry leaders and indie studios alike, along with a robust presence at the Play Days campus, Summer Game Fest 2026 has made us excited about video games all over again. Looking back, Summer Game Fest really came together in a moment of kismet borne from industry-wide and global setbacks. Before it had a prominent in-person component, Summer Game Fest was a livestream presentation only, a product of the COVID-19 pandemic during which the inaugural event was launched in 2020 as a means to replace the in-person events E3 and Gamescom. Since then, though Gamescom has bounced back, E3 has gone the way of the dodo, in no small part due to internal mismanagement, leading to its end in 2021. Summer Game Fest really has captured the spirit of E3 in its own private way and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event as the ultimate gaming comfort destination – so long as you’re invited.

🎮 Glimpses of Marvel’s Wolverine, Sony’s highly-anticipated single-player action-adventure game, appeared in Playstation’s State of Play presentation.
