šŸ¤” Lessons from Snow White Go Beyond Fairy Tale Morals

What does Snow White have to teach us about Disney fans, fandom in general, and how audience attitudes need to change?

Tuesday Edition March 25, 2025

Live action remakes of classic animated films are here to stay, for better or for worse. Despite some obvious misses (Pinocchio anyone?), audiences flock to see Disneyā€™s latest reimagining. And though Snow White, the most recent entry in the lineup, has its upside and downside, it has more to teach us about the whole remake phenomenon and fandom in general than is contained within the story itself. Itā€™s all in the how the audience reacts to bad-faith actors encouraging bigotry and division.

Senior Movies Editor David Crow has more to say about that below, but I wanted to take a moment to draw your attention to another article from staff writer Joe George, who talks about a lesson yet to be learned by filmmakers looking to pay homage to fairy tales: thereā€™s no need to be snarky and self-aware like Shrek! Rachel Zegler skillfully played Snow White straight out of storyland, so why include songs like ā€œPrincess Problemsā€? Just let the fairy tale be what it is, people!
