Fresh off an impressive Q4 earnings report (which one stock analyst referred to as “near flawless”), Netflix is renewing its focus on world streaming domination in 2025. At the “Next on Netflix” promotional event in LA this week, the streamer announced a host of new movies and series, revealed long-awaited release dates, and teased further details regarding its 2025 slate.

Wake Up Dead Man, the third installment in Rian Johnson’s series of Knives Out whodunnits, received a first look photo that finds Daniel Craig pulling off yet another preposterous lewk as Southern dandy detective Benoit Blanc. One hand grasping onto a fedora, the other in his pocket, the shaggy-haired sleuth is seen in a cathedral alongside a priest played by Josh O’Connor (Challengers).

We also got a first look at Frankenstein, horror auteur Guillermo del Toro’s latest collaboration with Netflix. “This film has been on my mind since I was a child — for 50 years,” del Toro told the audience in a pre-recorded statement. “And I’ve been trying to make it for 20-25 years. In fact, some people may even think I am a little bit obsessed with Frankenstein.”

Netflix used the tail end of the presentation to provide major updates on some of its biggest television titles. After sharing the first-ever publicly seen footage from Stranger Things season 5 (which Netflix has deemed will remain offline for now, sorry!), the show’s creators Matt and Ross Duffer hopped onstage to discuss the end of their 10-year journey with Netflix’s first big global hit.

“We spent a full year filming this season,” Ross Duffer said. “By the end, we’d captured over 650 hours of footage. So, needless to say, this is our biggest and most ambitious season yet. It’s like eight blockbuster movies.”

The Duffers also clarified that they will be involved in all upcoming Stranger Things spinoffs and spoke of their first two post-Stranger Things projects at Netflix: The Boroughs and Something Very Bad is Going to Happen.

The biggest news, however, was the official release date announcement for the final season of Netflix’s most successful series. Squid Game season 3 is set to arrive on June 27, 2025. It’s going to be a big year for the streamer!

Wake Up Dead Man First Look and the Mystery of What Knives Out 3 Is About

Traditionally, the promo images for the Knives Out films have been all about showing off the star-studded ensemble cast, but the first look photo from Wake Up Dead Man (see above) focuses in on a moment, perhaps realizing the increasing audience affection for Daniel Craig’s distinctive detective Benoit Blanc.

That’s not to say this sequel’s cast isn’t impressive — it definitely is! Screen veterans like Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, and Thomas Haden Church will be joined by younger stars Cailee Spaeny and Daryl McCormack. You’ll also spot familiar faces like Andrew Scott, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, and Mila Kunis. Let’s see what we can glean, shall we?

Nosferatu Cinematographer Promises Robert Eggers’ Werwulf Is Unlike Anything Done Before

Director Robert Eggers and cinematographer Jarin Blaschke as longtime collaborators have together shaped the amazingly atmospheric worlds of The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman, and now Nosferatu. This latest triumph has since been recognized as one of the biggest horror films of the past year, earning Blaschke his second Oscar nomination for cinematography, although sadly Eggers himself was once again overlooked.

But their journey is far from over. Eggers has already announced his next film, Werwulf, a 13th-century werewolf tale set for release on Christmas Day 2026, with Blaschke by his side, and we have some exclusive commentary from the cinematographer about the venture. Could this be the project that finally brings Eggers his long-awaited Academy recognition?
