Family is at the center of many dramas, but what if instead of being a part of the conventional narrative, it inspires the story itself? Netflix’s Sakamoto Days is certainly an example of an unconventional family, but the close bonds, inner conflicts, and unconditional support we associate with families certainly bring a unique feel to an assassin tale that we normally wouldn’t assign warm feelings to.

And what if a real life family trip, the type of dream vacation normally filled with happiness, inspired an exceptionally dark movie? Such is the case with the film Eden, which has its roots in a discovery director Ron Howard made with his daughter during a Galápagos visit. It seems that the term “family drama” can be about a lot more than just sibling rivalries and overbearing parents!
