💥 Wicked: For Good Review — Has the Spell Broken?

We’re taking a look at a pair of movie sequels in today’s newsletter, but they really couldn’t be more different. First of all, Wicked: For Good is a second act, not a sequel, and it carries almost all of the strengths and pitfalls of the latter half of the Broadway musical. In fact, trying to keep the momentum going from last year’s blockbuster is one of the follow-up’s biggest hurdles.

The other sequel has the opposite problem. Instead of capitalizing on an already popular property, Sisu: Road to Revenge is trying to build on the surprise success of its predecessor, the Finnish action hit Sisu, and keep the positive buzz alive. The filmmakers are possibly banking on the addition of Stephen Lang, an American stage actor known for his military roles, to broaden its audience.
